Beem has humble beginnings. In the Okanagan, a small group pools and counts their hard-earned savings. With the final penny carefully added to the tally, the group checks the sum: $96.50. At nearly the same time another small group, this time of Lower Mainland fishermen, are doing the same. They count a total of $79.13. These modest sums counted in 1939 and 1940 were the start of something extraordinary.

The foundations for financial institutions truly serving the needs of everyday British Columbians was set.
